Hailing from Richmond, Virginia, Dr. Tobias Keene brings a bit of unabashed Southern hospitality to all his patients. He moved to Washington, D.C. over thirty years ago as a freshman at Ivy College. Right after graduation, he attended World University’s School of Dentistry. Before opening Keene Dental in 1994, he worked for free clinics and some of the finest practices in the District. He is part of the 123 Dental Association and stays up-to-date on the latest dental discoveries. My husband, JD, and I were married in 2014 and now live in Lakewood, CO with our 3 contagious and investigative sons, Howie, Harvey, and Walt. I spent several years working in hospital administration and patient privacy, prior to starting a communication consulting business with my husband. I love exploring the world with my kids, being creative through cooking, and getting lost in a story. My journey to becoming a doula began in college when I explored a career as a patient advocate and then shortly after college, began to think about midwifery. Little did I know at the time that there was already a career that combined both of those interests! My oldest son was born at a birth center, and it was such an empowering experience to see the natural and purposeful design of labor. During all of my labors, my support team was invaluable to me, and I cannot imagine having to go through it without them! I know the importance of having people around you that you trust and can support you in one of the most intimate experiences of your life. I went to college at Texas A&M University, where I earned a degree in Health, and later completed an accelerated nursing program at Baylor University to become an RN. My husband, Sean, and I got married in 2021, and not long after, we packed up and moved to Denver to start an exciting new chapter together. After the move, I transitioned from hospital nursing to working at an OB/GYN and family medicine clinic, which deepened my interest in women’s health and birth work. In 2023, while pregnant with our daughter, I hired Tara to be my doula. Her guidance and support during such a transformative time helped me realize that empowering women in the birth space is exactly what I was made to do. As a doula, I am passionate about supporting women in achieving physiologic birth and honoring the natural process God created.
